Match preview:

The Collingwood Magpies and the Fremantle Dockers meet in a crucial middle-of-the-table clash at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 3:20pm (AEST).

The Pies are rolling along in good form, with three wins from their last four and only the loss to Geelong in Round 8 blotting their copybook over the last month.

The Dockers haven’t been enjoying their recent weeks, with losses to Richmond, Sydney and North, only buoyed by a solid performance against the Saints.

This looms as a tipping point for Freo, with another loss extending the distance between them and the top eight to three wins. That creates a task probably too tough to overcome with many quality opponents to face in the second half of the season.

The Magpies have a chance to continue to mount their case for serious contention in 2018 and with opposition players and coaches lauding their efforts, they appear to be gaining more and more respect as the weeks go by.

Slowly but surely Collingwood are welcoming players back from injury and look a more settled team, personnel-wise, than they have for somewhere near three years.

Fremantle aren’t at full strength, yet still send out a solid outfit that will be desperate to snare the points at a venue the Magpies relish.

Prediction
Fremantle have been gutsy at times this season but it appears time we all started to realise that Nathan Buckley has prepared his young squad well for 2018.

The team we are watching is a much better version of Collingwood than we have seen for some years.

Collingwood by four goals.
