Week two of the Gfinity Elite Series kicked off this afternoon at 3pm, with three massive matches between cities with storied sporting rivalries.

We had three games of CS:GO today, starting with Perth Ground Zero knocking off Sydney Roar 16-10, followed by Melbourne Avant claiming their first derby against Melbourne Order 16-13, and concluding with Sydney Chiefs crushing the Brisbane Deceptors 16-7.

In our preview article yesterday, we picked the first game to be the match of the day and, although the Roar had the most impressive win in week one, we said Perth would actually emerge the victors.

In the other matches, we predicted the Order to claim bragging rights in the first Melbourne derby and Brisbane to compound the Chiefs’ shock loss in week one with another upset win.

In the end, we only scored one out of three, but it was a cracking day nonetheless.

Here’s how social media saw it.

Watch the Gfinity Elite Series LIVE on The Roar.

7:55pm: It’s been all Sydney since the second half began – with Tama particularly animated about it.

He backs up his calls of “go back to Brissy” with some sublime play, as the Chiefs end up collecting an easy 16-7 victory.

7:45pm: The Chiefs are on an almighty roll here – claiming seven straight round victories.

They’ve taken a commanding 12-7 lead in front of a boisterous home crowd, forcing Brisbane to take a tactical timeout and regroup.

7:40pm: Looks we’re in for another thriller here. Chiefs looked to be getting well on top, but Brisbane were able to rally and take the 7-6 lead.

Sydney, however, weren’t done either, and they’ve taken two straight rounds to take the 8-7 lead into halftime.

7:30pm: Chiefs have already done themselves better compared to last week. They’ve recovered from a hot Deceptors start to level the match 5-5 after ten rounds.

7:20pm: Like last week, it’s Brisbane getting off to the hot start.

They pick up the first four rounds of the match, but the Chiefs are able to take the fifth to get it back to 4-1.

7:05pm: Sydney Chiefs have swung the axe after their crushing loss last week. bURNRUOk and LushBadger are out of the line-up, with Tama and Doom taking their place.

Trainyard will be the map for this one – making its Elite Series debut.

6:50pm: And there you have it! The first Melbourne derby finishes in Melbourne Avant’s favour as they claim an absolutely thrilling 16-13 victory over Order.

Next up, the last game of the day – a State of Origin rematch of sorts between Sydney Chiefs and Brisbane Deceptors. Coleman – who is now 2/2 – predicts a Chiefs win.

6:45pm: Wow! Four straight frags from Order captain Sonic flips Round 27 on its head! Avant were forced to plant the bomb on Point B but, despite having a numbers advantage, they weren’t prepared for their opponents lying in wait.

But Avant are able to peg it right back after Pecks does an incredible job in a one-on-two with a sliver of health left to steal a crucial round!

15-13 in favour of Avant – this has been the match of the season so far.

6:35pm: The Melbourne derby is going down to the wire! Avant and Order trading rounds since the former were able to level it at 10-10 before, and it’ll be Avant who take the narrowest of 13-12 leads as we approach the final five rounds.

6:20pm: Very controversial start to the second half, with Avant captain MoeyCQ booted from the server and the subsequent Order victory allowed to stand.

Avant have been breathing fire since then and they’ve managed to level it at 10-10 with four straight wins.

6:00pm: Melbourne Avant looked to be making a run heading into the break, picking up three straight wins to make it 8-6, but Order caught them napping badly in the final round in a crushing round 15 victory.

It’s the Order in control, 9-6, at the half.

5:50pm: After going 10-1 after halftime last week, Melbourne Order have picked up where they left off. After dropping the first three rounds, they’ve picked up seven wins in a row to take a strong 7-3 lead after ten.

5:40pm: Avant draftee Danz made a splash, with three headshots from three shots in the pistol round. His side were subsequently able to claim the first three rounds on the CT-side, but Order have pegged it back to 3-2.

5:15pm: We’ve got the Melbourne derby up next, with Melbourne Avant tackling Melbourne Order in the day’s second match.

Analyst Sean Coleman, who correctly predicted a Perth victory before, has given Avant his tick of approval.

Looks like we’ll be heading to Inferno.

4:45pm: Sydney Roar are able to stave off the loss at the very last moment – picking up a crucial tenth win to bring it back to 15-10 with five rounds to play.

But Perth are able to close it out just one round later – claiming a very impressive 16-10 victory in the end.

No doubt, they are the team to beat in CS:GO.

4:40pm: The superb T-side play the Roar displayed last week is nowhere to be found. They’re playing a lot more passively than last week and it’s not working.

Five straight wins for Perth since half time and they take a commanding 12-8 lead.

4:30pm: We’re going round-for-round here on Mirage. Sydney Roar got out to the 8-5 lead, but Perth took the last two rounds of the match and it’s 8-7 at the halfway point.

Roar, playing on the favoured CT-side that half, will need to be as impressive as they were on the T-side in the second half if they want this lead to stick.

4:20pm: Perth picked up their third win after the lengthy break, but the Roar took the ascendancy with six straight wins.

Ground Zero broke the streak in Round 10, but they still trail 6-4 as we approach half time.

3:55pm: The early going has been plagued by technical issues, but Perth have looked the so far, taking the first two rounds convincingly.

3:30pm: The match is just about to get underway and we’re headed to Mirage – the very same map Sydney Roar demolished Sydney Chiefs on last week.

After analyst Kevin Zhu went 0-3 with his predictions last week, his stand-in Sean Carlson has picked a narrow 16-14 victory for Perth.

3:10pm: It’s Perth taking on the Sydney Roar in the day’s first game, and the sides are just about ready to take the stage.

Ground Zero have named an unchanged line-up for today’s clash, while Sydney have subbed in wizard for iNSanity.

Shots fired on social media early.
