NRL team of the week Round 15

In the last round before the international break, the National Rugby League was blown apart by some big wins from teams in finals contention.

The Rabbitohs, Roosters, Titans, Dragons, Storm and Raiders all won by three tries or more with some brilliant individual performances.

Here is the NRL team of the week for Round 15.

Fullback: Michael Gordon (Gold Coast Titans)
Gordon was lethal in the early stages of the match scoring the two opening tries in quick succession. He set up Anthony Don not long after in a sensational night which saw him run for 194 metres with three tackle busts and four line breaks.

Wing: Corey Oates (Brisbane Broncos)
Corey Oates was once again dominant on the left edge. He made a huge line break in the second half only to be brought down 12 metres short of the line.

Not long after he stopped James Segeyaro from scoring before scoring a sensational try in the corner off a Darius Boyd cut-out pas. He ended the night with 220 running metres, five tackle busts and two line breaks.

Centre: Brenko Lee (Gold Coast Titans)
Exploited the Bulldogs on the right edge, running for 241 metres against his old club with eight tackle busts and forming a good combination with Anthony Don. He was solid on defence as well with 14 tackles.

Centre: Joseph Manu (Sydney Roosters)
Manu was outstanding for the Roosters both in attack and defence. He intercepted James Maloney early in the game, leading to a Blake Ferguson try on the next play.

Later he provided a flick out the back to tuck Ferguson away for a second before backing up with a try-saving tackle on Tyrone Phillips not long after. He ended the night with five tackle busts.

Wing: Robert Jennings (South Sydney Rabbitohs)
Jennings was dangerous on the right wing coming up against his brothers George and Michael. The Tongan winger ran for 200 metres with six tackle busts, three line breaks and four tries, exploiting the Eels’ left-hand defence as the Rabbitohs ran away with an impressive 42-24 win.

Five-Eighth: Cameron Munster (Melbourne Storm)
Cameron Munster built a solid combination with Josh Addo-Carr, twice finding himself in space to send his winger over to score.

The five-eighth ended up with 163 running metres, six tackle busts, a line break and three offloads in addition his two try assists while also forcing a drop-out and made 25 tackles.

Halfback: Ashley Taylor (Gold Coast Titans)
Taylor was the Titans’ most influential figure in attack, helping them to a big 32-10 victory over the Bulldogs at Belmore. He set up Michael Gordon for a try early in the first half before helping to create an overlap for Anthony Don to score in the corner.

He continued his elusive form in the second half providing a cross-field kick for a Phillip Sami try before providing a pass to send Kevin Proctor through and nearly giving Moeaki Fotuaika a meat pie.

Prop: Jared Waerea-Hargreaves (Sydney Roosters)
Waerea-Hargreaves produced his best game in a long time as he featured in the Roosters’ upset win over the Panthers. He ran for a massive 244 metres with eight tackle breaks, stepping up in the absence of Dylan Napa and coming up with 39 tackles in defence.

Hooker: Josh Hodgson (Canberra Raiders)
Hodgson returned from injury in style, turning the Raiders around with his arrival on the field and sparking a huge victory. He was lethal out of dummy-half with some good darts, setting up two tries for Joseph Tapine on the right edge.

Prop: Ryan James (Gold Coast Titans)
James led from the front for the Titans, providing plenty of grunt as the Gold Coast dominated in the middle. He scored a try in what was a fantastic game which saw him make three tackle busts and a line break in addition to 126 running metres while muscling up for 51 tackles in defence.

Back row: Joseph Tapine (Canberra Raiders)
Tapine returned from suspension in style scoring two tries in a big win over the Wests Tigers. He busted through ten tackles and made two line breaks in a brilliant attacking performance, standing up on the right edge and also making 31 tackles in defence.

Back row: Kevin Proctor (Gold Coast Titans)
Proctor wreaked havoc on the right edge for the Titans. He ran through the line early in the game to set up Michael Gordon to score and snagged a try of his own in the second half. Proctor backed up at the other end of the ground making 37 tackles.

Lock forward: Jason Taumalolo (North Queensland Cowboys)
Taumalolo was at his destructive best in the middle as he ran for a massive 216 metres on Friday night. The Tongan international made 32 tackles as well as eight tackle breaks, while also nearly managing to force an offload for Johnathan Thurston to score.

Interchange: Tohu Harris (Warriors)
Harris did all the little things right, once again proving himself as one of the Warriors’ greatest attacking threats. He made five tackle busts and 45 tackles in a big night, almost setting up Gerard Beale for a first half try, the winger falling inches short of the line.

Interchange: Joe Ofahengaue (Brisbane Broncos)
Ofahengaue made big impact off the bench for the Broncos, proving to be their best player up front. The Tongan international ran for 157 metres with five tackle busts and 35 tackles.

Interchange: Tariq Sims (St George Illawarra Dragons)
Sims formed part of a devastating left edge for the Dragons scoring a try late in the first half and also tipping the ball back from a Ben Hunt kick for Nene Macdonald to score in the corner. He ran for 114 metres with four tackle busts and made 30 tackles.

Interchange: Nelson Asofa-Solomona (Melbourne Storm)
Asofa-Solomona was dominant through the middle of the park for the Storm running for 160 metres and busting through three tackles in an impressive display against the Knights.
