Cairns will be treated to a fierce battle between the South Sydney Rabbitohs and North Queensland Cowboys. Can the Rabbitohs continue their strong form or will the Cowboys maintain their unblemished record in the far north? Join The Roar from 4:10pm (AEST) for live scores and coverage.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have been one of the stronger teams in the National Rugby League throughout the 2018 season.

The cardinal and myrtle have been strong under the new leadership of Anthony Seibold with their team performing well in key positions, particularly through their left edge attack featuring Cody Walker, John Sutton, Greg Inglis and Robert Jennings.

In their last match, Jennings was particularly potent scoring four tries on the edge as the Bunnies ran away with a comfortable 42-24 win over the Parramatta Eels.

Seibold will be grateful to be playing on a Sunday afternoon, not only allowing his team to adjust to the climate of the tropical north but also to rest his representative stars with the Burgess brothers all returning from Denver while Inglis, Dane Gagai, Damien Cook and Angus Crichton backing up from State of Origin.

The Cowboys have had a season to forget, failing to hit their straps. They will be worse off given the injury to Michael Morgan that sees him sidelined for the remainder of the season resulting in Te Maire Martin stepping back into the No.6 jersey.

Martin will need to step up while Johnathan Thurston also has a big role to play given that he has failed to emulate his past performances.

The Cowboys were good against the Warriors in Round 15, going down narrowly 23-16 and will require better leadership and creativity from their halves if they are to relaunch their campaign.

33 matches have been played between the Cowboys and Rabbitohs with North Queensland holding a slight advantage with their 17 wins.

The two teams met earlier in the year in Round 11 however when South Sydney ran out 20-19 victors during the dying moments in Townsville.

Since commencing their relationship with Cairns in 2013, the Rabbitohs have won two games from five, the last two coming against the Cowboys in which North Queensland have been comfortable victors.

Prediction
The South Sydney Rabbitohs will bounce back to produce a solid victory and continue their ascent toward the top of the ladder.

Rabbitohs by 8.
