Happy Monday! My final Power Rankings (for the year). Enjoy, and thanks for following along this season.
Last week: 1
Comfortable win. Two-peat ambitions are alive for another week. Next week will be big. Bloody big.
Last week: 2
Official weeks West Coast haven’t fallen apart in 2018 without Nic Natanui counter: one.
Last week: 5
Domination against North. As simple as that, really. Massive, massive game against the Tigers next weekend.
Last week: 6
Massive win, in terms of the season. That sounds clichéd as hell, but it’s true.
Last week: 3
Oh no.
Last week: 7
It must feel really damn weird to be a fan of this team on this Monday morning. One, they won a phenomenal match in great fashion, but they’ve still been booted out of the top eight by way of Hawthorn’s improved percentage.
Last week: 4
Loss to Fremantle. Bad, but no panic. Loss to GWS, getting a little worse. No mammoth panic stations, yet, but they’re entering a weird position where they could make top 4, but could also miss finals.
Last week: 9
Pretty easy win. Bigger news, though, is they’re back in the top eight. They’ll be fighting damn hard to remain there.
Last week: 8
Dreadful accuracy, but they shook off Fremantle with relative ease in the final term. Like the Crows, they’re pushing hard for finals.
Last week: 11
Last week, I noted that Brisbane ‘might be a challenge’ for the Crows. I suppose I wasn’t wrong, but the South Australians kept their finals hopes alive with a good win.
Last week: 10
Dear oh dear, that’s as heartbreaking a loss you’ll see in a while. Old Melbourne might’ve floundered after a loss like that. Let’s hope new Melbourne doesn’t. There’s finals footy to be played. One would hope.
Last week: 12
Their three-peat ending at the hands of South Australians. Sound familiar? Well, at least it’s a far, far cry better than the thrashings we’ve come to expect when this side plays Adelaide.
Last week: 13
Yikes. That was dreadful. And they ain’t making finals no more, this team, I’d bet. Pity, really – they were so impressive early in the season.
Last week: 14
One Friday night win, one Friday night loss. No, I’m not talking about the Saints’ past fortnight. I’m talking ‘bout the incredibly rewarding occasion that was Maddie’s Match. I know it’ll sound horribly idealistic and out of place on a column such as this, but it was sensational seeing the charity receive so much support.
Last week: 15
Wasn’t as bad as some of the losses Freo’s suffered this year. Would’ve liked to see them snatch a win, but I’ll take a reasonably competitive loss. Can we have our Fyfey back now, please, though?
Last week: 17
If you predicted this, either you’re certifiably insane or you’re a damn good liar. Upset of the year. Bar none.
Last week: 16
Barely had a pulse. Unfortunately for them, that means they’re falling to second last here.
Last week: 18
Another day, another loss. On a weekend where their fellow stragglers a) narrowly lost to last year’s grand finalists and b) thrashed perhaps the second best team of the past decade on their home deck, it’s incredibly galling to look at Carlton’s thrashing at the hands of perhaps the best team of the past decade.
