Following increased speculation surrounding the status of Sea Eagles coach Trent Barrett in the last few days, the club have released a statement hoping to clear up the issue.

The only problem with this statement?

It tells us nothing.

Here is the statement in full before we go any further.

“The Club is addressing the matters which have been the subject of recent public speculation in relation to its Head Coach, Trent Barrett, and does not intend to make any further statement at this time,” the statement said.

“The Club’s focus remains on ensuring the best possible finish to the 2018 NRL season on behalf of its playing group, members, fans, corporate partners, owners and its community at large.

A full statement will be made at the appropriate time.”

Make of that what you will, but the Sea Eagles aren’t either confirming or denying Barrett will be leaving the Northern Beaches club in 2019.

Keeping in mind his contract runs until 2020, there has been mounting speculation in the past weeks the coach isn’t happy with what’s being done at Manly.

It was reported on Tuesday evening by Paul Kent that Barrett had already handed his notice in at the club and would be on his way out at the end of the season, with the club trying to delay the announcement until the end of the season.

The Sea Eagles will take on the Gold Coast Titans this Friday as they continue to try and avoid the wooden spoon after a dismal 2018 season.
