The Penrith Panthers and New Zealand Warriors will be desperately trying to stay in the premiership race when they meet in the first elimination final of the 2018 NRL finals series. The clash will start at 5:30pm (AEST) on Saturday, September 8 at ANZ Stadium.

The two sides only met a fortnight ago and on that occasion, the Warriors ran away 36-16 victors. But only two months prior, the Panthers recorded a 36-4 win.

It’s anyone’s guess as to what happens in this game. What we do know, however, is that Stephen Kearney’s men will have no problems getting up for the game given it will be the club’s first finals appearance since 2011.

It remains to be seen whether they will be overawed by the occasion or will prosper under the pressure.

The big advantage Penrith have heading into this week’s game is experienced five-eighth James Maloney.

Maloney knows exactly how to step up in the important moments and his return was a major reason for Penrith’s upset win over Melbourne last week.
