With the fourth Club Roar Awards closing in, we wanted to mark the occasion by celebrating the past clubs and players who have taken home a chunk of the $10,000 on offer and helped make Club Roar Australia’s largest celebration of grassroots sport and weekend heroes.

In the last round of the Awards, one of South Perth Lions’ rising stars Rueben Cherrington took home the Women In Sports award for one of the meat pies of the year, stunning not only the defence, but the judges as well!

Andrea Jordan, the one who sent in Rueben’s sensational effort, wasn’t surprised by what she saw.

“It was an amazing display of pure determination, grit, and guts, which is the way in which Rueben – excuse the pun – tackles everything in her life.”

Rueben’s determination, grit, and guts have certainly payed off big time, taking home a cool $1,000 for her winning video.

After sharing the prizemoney with her coach, Rueben used her cut to pay for a trip to the CAS Championships in Sydney with the West Australian Under 16s side.

Not only did the money get her there, but the team ended up winning the Championships for the second year running!

Rueben’s own performance caught the eye of the Australian Youth Rugby 7s squad and New South Wales Under 15s Rugby.

With the South Perth Lions Under 16s side well in the mix of a grand final appearance this season and the NSW Under 15s set to take on Queensland at Ballymore Stadium in September, Rueben is looking to finish another spectacular season with a bang!
