Our Australian women’s football team, the Matildas, are set to take on France in an international friendly set to kick-off at 5am (AEST) on Saturday, October 6.

The Matildas have already secured qualification to the 2019 FIFA Women’s world cup, in France, by virtue of reaching the semi-finals in the 2018 AFC Women’s Asian cup.

They’ll be using this match as an important opportunity to tune up for the tournament against the host nation.

Australia’s women are currently ranked sixth in the world, although they’ll start underdogs against the French, who are ranked fourth.

These sides haven’t played each other since 2014, where France triumphed 3-2 in a thriller in Cyprus. Australia did win the previous encounter, however, 2-0 in France.
