India strolled to a 3-1 one-day international series victory over West Indies with a crushing nine-wicket win at Thiruvananthapuram.

India humbled the West Indies by nine wickets in the final one-day international to wrap up the five-match series 3-1.

Batting first, the tourists were dismissed for 104 in just 31.5 overs, and India’s victory on Thursday was so conclusive that the mid-innings break was not even needed.

Ravindra Jadeja took four wickets for 34 runs as only three West Indies batsmen – Jason Holder (25), Marlon Samuels (24) and Rovman Powell (16) – reached double figures.

And India needed only 14.5 overs to chase down the target, despite the early loss of Shikhar Dhawan.

Rohit Sharma (63 not out) and Kohli (33 not out) made good on their stupendous form through this series, grinding out the visitors’ bowling attack with a 99-run partnership for the second wicket off 78 balls.

They seemed in a hurry to knock off the runs before sunset, their 50-partnership came off 51 balls and they accelerated further afterwards.

Kohli, whose 453 tally over the four matches earned him the man of the series award, said: “We were able to finish the game in a few hours because of our clinical performance.

“We wanted to bowl first and credit to the bowlers for pitching in the right areas. We have been clinical in the last two games. It is an added bonus to be able to contribute as captain. It won’t happen every time.”
