Of all the variables that affect the result of a given match, injuries are often the most frustrating.

Numerous clubs have had their depth tested so far in 2019 and several face a mountain to climb in Round 8 thanks to a long list of sidelined personnel.

On today’s episode of Game of Codes, Matthew Petherick and Andrew Miller take a look at which omissions will have the biggest impact on the weekend’s results.

Listen to the debate:

Richmond’s Nick Vlastuin (ankle) and Daniel Rioli (thigh) are reportedly out for the Tigers’ match against Fremantle at Optus Stadium on Sunday, adding to the club’s already significant list of injury woes.

Port Adelaide have also been hit hard with Ollie Wines (ankle) and Brad Ebert (concussion) sidelined alongside Robbie Gray (hand) and Hamish Hartlett (hamstring) ahead of the highly anticipated Showdown on Saturday night.

Essendon will reportedly face Sydney tonight without star forward Joe Daniher, who missed much of the 2018 season with osteitis pubis and sat out the Bombers’ first four matches of 2019 with a calf injury.
