The Rugby Championship is fast approaching and, while the Wallabies haven’t named their squad just yet, they’ve made headlines after revealing James O’Connor was back training with the squad.

Although he won’t play in Australia’s Rugby Championship opener, there’s every chance he’ll get a run at some point during the tournament.

The former Western Force, Melbourne Rebels and Queensland Reds player has played two separate stints in Europe – the first of which came about after Rugby Australia terminated his contract due to off-field indiscretions – but has returned to Australia as he looks to get his Wallabies career back on track.

But is he really the kind of players Australia should be looking at right now? Can he squeeze his way into the lineup for the World Cup? Which other players should the Wallabies have crucial Rugby Championship campaigns coming up?

We got Roar rugby expert Brett McKay to make the call on which players he thinks the Wallabies should be giving a go in the Rugby Championship ahead of this year’s World Cup, and whether O’Connor fits in those plans.
