The students finished at the top of the ladder at the end of the regular season, winning 12 of their 17 games in what was an excellent performance across the course of the year. They then defeated Manly and Northern Suburbs convincingly in their knockout games to make the grand final.

Warringah, on the other hand, finished in third spot on the ladder at the end of the season and, like the students, had an impressive run through the finals as they ran past Eastwood by seven points last week to make the decider.
