With three wins from their first three games – a first in club history – the Western Sydney Wanderers sit alone atop the A-League ladder.

The first ever Sydney derby at Bankwest Stadium was an occasion in itself, with 28,519 fans packing the Parramatta ground to create some of the best atmosphere we’ve ever seen at a football match in Australia.

It’s a long season, but have the Wanderers established themselves as a genuine contender this season?

We were joined by Roar football expert Mike Tuckerman on the Game of Codes podcast to look at how the Wanderers have played this season and make a call on whether they can keep it up.

Listen to the debate in the player above.

The Sydney derby wasn’t without controversy, with everybody’s favourite – VAR – rearing its controversial head once more in the second half when Wanderers goalie Daniel Lopar appeared to take Kosta Barbarouses’ rebounded header behind the goal line.

Reviews weren’t deemed conclusive enough to overturn the call of no goal on the field, incensing Steve Corica and the Sky Blues faithful.
