Update: John Wayne Parr defeated Anthony Mundine in the final match of his career, with the fight going the distance over ten rounds but Parr winning on split decision.

Parr and Anthony Mundine can both retire happy after putting on an entertaining fight at the Brisbane Convention Centre.

Both veterans gave their all over 10 rounds, but in the end it was Parr that came away with a split decision victory: 94-95, 96-93 and 95-93.

The fight followed a similar pattern over each of the ten rounds: Parr relentlessly stalking Mundine and throwing plenty of leather to often pin him against the ropes.

Mundine countered with some clean boxing shots whenever he could, but it was Parr’s work rate and punching power that earned him more rounds.

Earlier in the night, Gold Coast Titans and Queensland Maroons player Jarrod Wallace one his boxing debut on points over Nick Timm.

Anthony Mundine will step into the ring one more time to face kickboxing legend John Wayne Parr in Brisbane. If you’re looking to watch the fight you are in the right place: here we have all the information you need to know.

Anthony Mundine
“He’s a deadset legend. He’s internationally known. I’ve got nothing but respect for the brother. But I’m going to show him who’s his daddy in the boxing ring.

“I want to make sure I’m in tip-top shape because John Wayne Parr will be. This is Australia’s version of the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor fight — two champs from different fight sports and we know how that one finished. The slick boxer won easy.”

John Wayne Parr
“My last boxing fight was 2003 against former WBC world champion Sakio Bika that I lost on points over 12 rounds.

“My KO ratio in boxing is 100 per cent with 10 wins, 10 knockouts, so I know if I can land I can hurt whoever it is in front of me. I’m doing this to secure my legacy as one of Australia’s greatest.”

Jeff Horn
“I don’t like putting Mundine down, but there’s a different level now between me and Mundine. He’s past his best now.”

Jeff Fenech
“It’s two old guys.

“John Wayne Parr’s been beaten by Nader (Hamdan), Ian McLeod beat him with one hand — he had a broken hand — Sakio Bika beat him.

“He’s great at what he does. He’s an amazing fighter and a top guy.

“No disrespect to either of them — I’m not sure how John Wayne Parr’s going to go in the fight — but if he has a go and lands a punch on Anthony, the fight’s over.

“Anthony’s days are well and truly behind him, and to be honest, I think it’s embarrassing to the sport of boxing.”
