The Roar's A-League Men tips and predictions: Round 26 - the jostle for finals positions is on in earnest
Here is the way the Roar expert panel sees all the action unfolding across the final weekend of play prior to the semi-finals.
After a reasonable start to the season, the wheels appear to be falling off the wagon at Western Sydney following three consecutive losses.
When you throw in a 0-0 draw with Brisbane Roar before this losing streak, it means you have to go all the way back to October 26 to find the Wanderers’ last win.
While they still occupy a top four spot – for now – with the club in horrible form and Markus Babbel under pressure, it’s hard to see how long that will continue to be the case.
We were joined by Roar football expert and editor Matthew Galea on the Game of Codes podcast to discuss the Wanderers woes and work out how they turn it around.
Babbel’s post-game comments in the latest loss deflected a lot of blame on his playing group, with the coach saying; “I said at halftime ‘it’s not working. If you follow our structure, if you follow how we want to play, we will create chances, we will dominate them’ and that’s exactly what happened.
“Then in the last 15 minutes we dropped back into the old situation and then you concede goals.”
Is Babbel on the money? Or is it time the spotlight moved to him?
