It comes after the NRL promised a crackdown on dissent towards the referees this week.
Canterbury have ended any speculation over captain Josh Jackson’s future, re-signing him on a three-year deal.
The Bulldogs confirmed the back-rower’s signature on Sunday, on a contract that will keep him in the kennel until the end of 2023.
A one-club player at Canterbury, Jackson was the Bulldogs’ clubman of the year in 2019 and remains in contention to return to the NSW State of Origin team.
“He is an incredibly popular figure here at Belmore,” chief executive Andrew Hill said.
“He represents everything that is great about our club in the way that he carries himself on and off the field.
“He is a quality player who leads from the front every week but just as importantly he is an outstanding person who contributes a great deal in the community.”
There had been some speculation Jackson could be on the look out for a new club, but realistically it would have been a shock to see him leave.
Jackson will turn 29 in January and had groin and hip surgery earlier this month, however he will be fit to return to training in the new year.
The captain will be turning 32 by the end of this deal meaning it could potentially be his last in the NRL, and he could be the club’s most-capped forward by the end of the contract.
