The annual event that gets Australians interested in yacht racing is nearly upon us, with the Sydney to Hobart race setting sail for 2019 on Boxing Day. This is The Roar’s guide to streaming the race online, or watching it on TV.
As always, the race will begin at 1pm (AEDT) in Sydney Harbour on Tuesday, December 26.

The race is not only the most prestigious of its kind in Australia, but one of the biggest in the world and, as such, hundreds of yachts the world over congregate to Sydney Harbour to try their luck.
The reigning champions are Wild Oats XI, who have won line honours for the race a staggering nine times, including in eight of ten years from 2005 to 2014.
They also set an unofficial record time of one day, eight hours, 48 minutes and 50 seconds back in 2017 – only to receive a one-hour penalty for almost causing a collision at the beginning of the race, costing her the race.
Channel Seven are still the rights holders for the race – though due to the Boxing Day Test, you’ll likely have to go to 7Mate to watch it. Check your local listings to be sure.
Coverage will begin on Boxing Day from 12:30pm (AEDT), and will cover roughly the first hour of the race before concluding. Due to the length of the race, the network won’t cover it in its entirety.
To watch the first hour or so of the race, tune in to Seven’s streaming website, 7Plus, on your desktop, laptop, tablet or mobile device. You can also download the 7plus app and watch through there.
Once Seven’s coverage ends, head to the official race tracker on the Sydney to Hobart website, where you can watch the rest of the action as it unfolds.
