With this hectic 2020 home-and-away season coming towards an end, journos are starting to talk about potential trades and free-agent destinations.

And with plenty of big free agents, here are five that could get a lot of attention.

Darcy Moore: Collingwood (out-of-contract)
There’s not a lot of talk about besides the fact that All-Australian-calibre defender Darcy Moore is out of contract. That’s because of the tremendous season the son of Collingwood ruckman Peter Moore is having.

He has dramatically improved since his move down back, currently averaging 13.6 disposals (career-high), 3.2 rebound 50s, 6.3 one-percenters, five marks and 0.7 contested marks per game. His efficiency is also 81.6 per cent, with a kicking efficiency of 76.7 per cent.

Moore was previously linked with Richmond mainly because they didn’t have anyone in the team to replace Alex Rance. But with Noah Balta breaking through as the next Rance, he looks more likely to stay at Collingwood than go anywhere else.

Brad Crouch: Adelaide (restricted free agent)
Crouch has continued to go from strength to strength each year he’s been at the Crows, much like the Crows did over those couple of years. After missing a year back in 2018, he was super in 2019, but his form has slightly dipped this year.

But he still has really good numbers, averaging 20.3 disposals, 4.5 clearances, 3.9 tackles and 10.4 contested possessions per game. His career numbers are still much better though, with 26.1 disposals, five clearances, 10.8 contested possessions and 5.5 tackles per game, along with 27 career Brownlow votes.

In recent weeks he has been linked to crosstown rivals Port Adelaide with that move potentially strengthening an already strong midfield, but he could potentially go to Victoria as well. This is a very intriguing one to watch.

Jeremy Cameron: GWS (restricted free agent)
Possibly the biggest free agent this off-season, Cameron is a scoring machine year after year, scoring as if it was like he was living in a video game at times. Only 27 and still with plenty of years left in him, he already has 425 goals in 167 games.

2019 was easily his best year, winning the Coleman Medal, gathering 13 Brownlow votes and averaging 16 disposals, 3.2 goals, 3.1 marks inside 50, 6.5 marks, 3.3 inside 50s and 1.4 tackles per game. He has dropped in form this year (mainly due to quarantine) but did make a massive impact yesterday against Fremantle.

He has been linked to several Victorian clubs, including Collingwood and especially Essendon. He’s a restricted free agent, but I see the man from Dartmoor in country Victoria and who grew up a Collingwood supporter doing a Stephen Coniglio and staying in the west of Sydney.

Zac Williams: GWS (restricted free agent)
Another one who continues to improve much like the Giants in recent years, Williams has got such breathtaking speed as well as having an absolutely super long kick from defence. With that dash and his kicking ability, he is a handy inclusion for any side.

He has had injury problems before, but that 2019 season was his best as well, averaging 23.7 touches, 4.3 rebound 50s, three inside 50s, 14 uncontested possessions, 17.3 kicks and managed to get three Brownlow votes. This season’s numbers have dropped (17.3 touches, 12.7 kicks, 2.9 rebound 50s per game), but he is still performing admirably.

Despite being born and raised in South NSW (Narrandera), he has been linked to a couple of Victorian clubs as well, including Essendon, North Melbourne and Carlton, with afl.com.au reporting that Carlton are leading the race for him. It could be a tight one, but I reckon GWS would want the salary and he’ll most likely go to the Blues.

Joe Daniher: Essendon (restricted free agent)
A man who can light up any game when he’s in the zone, Daniher has been riddled with injuries the last three years (supposedly and sadly). However, he still is a star of the game as shown in his return game on Thursday arvo against Hawthorn.

The son and nephew of the legendary Daniher brothers (Anthony, Terry, Neale and Chris), he was superb back in his All-Australian and best-and-fairest winning 2017 year, averaging 2.8 goals, 15.3 disposals, 2.7 marks inside 50, 6.7 marks, 3.2 inside 50s, 1.9 contested marks and finished fourth (behind Ben Brown, Josh Kennedy and Buddy Franklin) in the Coleman Medal race.

He has been strongly linked with Sydney this last year, even requesting a trade last year to the Swans. But he is still a restricted free agent, so Adrian Dodoro will look to keep him on or get the best possible trade deal out of it. I still think he’ll want to go to the Swans.

With plenty of free agents still out there, there will be plenty of talk about who goes where, but we’ll see when the postseason begins.

The second part will be submitted within in the next week.
