There are a couple of strong meetings this Saturday night, with the main focus being on Menagle where it is Miracle Mile Night.

Below are the best bets for the respective programs.

Menangle

Best bet: Luke McCarthy three-plus winners
Odds of $3.30 for the gun driver to steer home three or more winners is a decent enough gamble for the night. Most would agree that King Of Swing is a lock for the Miracle Mile, so it comes down to the first three races. McCarthy will drive first or second favourites in those races and to get this bet up, he would need to drive two of them to the post in first spot. Ideally, he will get all three home and enjoy a star in King Of Swing winning the big one.

Next best: Race 6, Number 8, Patsbeachstorm
David Moran would have loved to drive Lochinvar Art in the Miracle Mile but it is a decent consolation here with this exciting three-year-old to take out the Derby. His heat win was very sharp, sitting on speed. There was no cover and he was far too good for them. That effort showed he can work in the run and still be effective at the end.

Value: Race 4, Number 4, Drop The Hammer
This is a hot race for the trotters. Majestic Man is odds on, but is there a question mark on how well he is going to warrant taking $1.50 or thereabouts? There is, hence each way. I am going with the proven Menangle performer, who is racing very well this time in, albeit in easier grade, but he is a track specialist who can push forward and run a bold race.

Best bet: Race 6, Number 4, Prestonpans
He is one of the more fascinating runners on the program but if he runs up to what he promised when last in work, he wins. This horse was formerly with Tim Butt but is now with Andy Gath. He’s a gun at these tried horses, getting the best out of them. The recent trial work has been outstanding. He has gate speed. I am really keen on him.

Next best: Race 3, Number 11, Dels Destiny
All Cashed Up looks to pick himself on class, but he’s drawn inside the second row and will need luck so at the better odds, I am happy to be with Dels Destiny. He has really sharp change-up speed and has a good trailing draw to use. Forget last start at Terang. He made a mess of the stand. That sealed his fate. Prior efforts suggest he can win a race like this.

Value: Race 8, Number 1, Six Elements
She is being cuddled in early betting as a $6 chance. She’ll get towards double figures and that’s when to bet. Forget she went around at Yarra Valley on Monday when wide throughout and pulling quite hard. This horse was an impressive winner at Terang the start prior and has gate speed to use.
