There are two meetings to look at this Saturday, with my focus being on Melton and Menangle.

Below are the best bets for the respective programs.

Melton

Best bet: Race 3, Number 4, Sleepee
It could get messy for this mare, but she’s fast becoming one of the better trotting mares in Australia and all things being equal, she wins again. This horse has been given a couple of weeks’ break since winning at Group 1 level here and despite speed drawn inside, she has these on toast regarding class.

Next best: Race 8, Number 9, Yorkshire
Kima Frenning has this gelding absolutely flying at the moment. He has won the past two, both times getting suck runs near the speed and he proved way too good. This horse has a trailing draw to use this time around and if he is within range 400 metres out, he has the change-up speed to make it three on the bounce.

Value: Race 4, Number 1, Lopez
This horse rises a bit in grade and depth, but she was impressive first up at Kilmore. This horse produced electric change-up speed from off the pace and was one of the wins of the meeting. It’ll be interesting to see where she lands from the pole, but if she’s within range on the turn, she has the turn of foot to win.

Best bet: Luke McCarthy two-plus winners
Odds of $2.30 for him to drive two-plus winners looks a decent enough bet. The anchor looks to be Cash ‘N’ Flow and he has a really good book of drives throughout the night, so he’ll drive two or more winners and this is the main bet for the night.

Next best: Race 8, Number 1, Chrissy Chic
This horse is back miles in grade and depth after contesting the NSW Oaks. This horse was good in the heat but just found them a bit sharp in the final. This is a small field. This horse should lead these comfortably and only has to hold her form to win this comfortably.

Value: Race 5, Number 1, Don Boston
This is more of a 1×3 speck at big odds. He’s a veteran who hasn’t won in just under a year, but he will give you a sight given he has blistering early speed from the mobile and should lead these up comfortably. He’ll get a stitch at the end but should give you a great run for your money.
