The Maroons were plagued by injury before even naming their first team for Game 2, with Kalyn Ponga (groin) and AJ Brimson (knee) both unable to play fullback. That led to Queensland coach Paul Green sensationally naming Warriors seven-gamer Reece Walsh at fullback, but he succumbed to a leg injury in training.

That led to Valentine Holmes resuming the fullback position he played in Game 1 and Cronulla younster Ronaldo Mulitalo being promoted from the reserves to the wing. However, Mulitalo was then ruled ineligible to play Origin after it was revealed he’d lived in New Zealand until after the 13th-birthday cut-off for eligibility.

That means, after all of that, the Maroons have the same backline as Game 1. Holmes sets up at the back, with Kyle Feldt and Xavier Coates – who both had shockers in Origin 1 – on the wings. Dane Gagai and Kurt Capewell retain their spots in the centres.

Harry Grant (hamstring) and Reed Mahoney (shoulder) are also unavailable at hooker, meaning Andrew McCullough takes the number 9 jumper. The Maroons have also shuffled their forward pack.

As for the Blues, they’ve made just one change. Junior Paulo comes off the bench to replace the injured Jake Trbojevic, with Angus Crichton coming on the bench.
