The Parramatta Eels could make the stunning move to lock out the general public for two blockbuster home games in 2022.

In what could become widespread across the NRL in the future, the Easter Monday clash with the Wests Tigers and Round 20 match against the Penrith Panthers could be member-exclusive games, according to The Daily Telegraph.

The Eels’ membership numbers have surged in recent seasons despite their premiership drought sitting at 35 years and counting, and they now boast the most members of all 16 teams.

Locking out the general public to allow their members to attend would be a first for the NRL and could lead to other teams following suit in a bid to encourage membership take up among diehard fans.

I’ve been a Dragons Red V member for 13 consecutive seasons and love attending home games and member-only events, such as the recent open training session held at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium, and I think member-only games is a great idea.

If you want to attend home games for your team, you need a membership. I think it’s a very good strategy and would benefit teams with smaller membership numbers, filling their coffers and making club membership the norm among rugby league fans.

There would, of course, be those against being forced to fork out their hard-earned to pay for a membership, especially families who may need to buy four or five memberships, or fans who can only get to one or two games a year.

What do you think: are member-only games the way of the future, and would they entice you to become a member of your team?
