The Queensland Maroons can clinch an upset series victory in the 2022 State of Origin when they take on the New South Wales Blues on Sunday. Game 2 will take place at Optus Stadium in Perth for the second time ever.

While the main attraction is the game itself, there will be plenty to entertain spectators lucky enough to grab a ticket to the big game, with Perth keen to put on a show to rival the 2019 Game 2 and the 2021 AFL grand final.

After the gates open at 3pm local time (that’s 5pm AEST), the curtain-raiser starts the afternoon’s action, featuring the Combined Affiliates States U18s.

After that concludes, it will be time for pre-match entertainment. Not much was on offer in Game 1 in Sydney, but the NRL have booked Australian rock band Grinspoon to play.

Hailing from Lismore in far northern NSW, lead singer Phil Jamieson said it was an honour to be the headline act for Origin.

“Shows don’t come much bigger than State of Origin, and as four boys who grew up in Lismore NSW, it’s one that means a lot to us,” Jamieson said earlier in the week.

“We can’t wait to get out there at Optus Stadium and set the stage for an awesome game of footy.”

Grinspoon are expected to begin at 7:22pm, with their show followed by the Indigenous Welcome to Country and the national anthem.

It’s expected that Game 2 will kick off at 7:50pm (AEST), but as we all know, those times rarely go by the book. Game 1 of the series started four minutes late despite a delayed start of 8:10pm, so it can be safely assumed that the match starting on time is unlikely.
