The Warriors after 1038 days finally got to play at their true home ground, Mt. Smart Stadium and in front of their home fans across the Tasman Sea.

A sold-out stadium saw the Warriors host the Wests Tigers. Both teams having a shocking season and aiming to do all they can to avoid the spoon.

In front of their home crowd, the Warriors got the win 22-2 with tries to Tohu Harris, Chanel Harris-Tavita and Jesse Arthars and a perfect 5/5 goal kicking record from Shaun Johnson.

The sacrifices the Warriors had to make in the last three years have been beneficial for the competition. Their sacrifice is a massive reason why the competition could still resume during the pandemic.

Round 1 2020, days after being warned about Coronavirus, everything had changed and the following week, all games went ahead behind closed doors. Preceding Round 2, the season was suspended, reshaped and reduced.

The Warriors begun that season being shut out 20-0 against Newcastle in Newcastle and the following week, instead of playing at home, they were relocated to the Gold Coast to host Canberra, losing 20-6 and the season was then suspended.

Following the resumption of the competition, the Warriors were be relocated to the Central Coast for the duration of season and would have to repeat the same fate for the 2021 season until the competition was forced to move to Queensland.

For the opening 15 rounds of the current campaign, Redcliffe became their home.

In my opinion, I believe they should be given compensation for all the sacrifices they did.

How should they be compensated?

From 2023-2025, the Warriors should get a total of 17 home games instead of just 12. All 15 other teams (the Dolphins haven’t begun yet) should over the next three years sacrifice one home game to be played at Mt Smart Stadium.

What I mean by that is next year, five selected teams will sacrifice a home game to be played over there, 2024 will see five other teams do the same and 2025 will see the final five teams to be selected to complete the gauntlet.

With that being said, let’s say this actually happens and the Newcastle Knights sacrifice a home game. All Knights members who want to fly to New Zealand for their home game across the sea will be able to use their membership cards to scan and get their way in.

When it comes down to booking tickets, there can be a Knights members option so Newcastle members can select their seats for free. They use the option, input their membership number and they’re in.

The Warriors deserve that after all they done so they should be given their compensation.

Not just as a passionate Knights supporter but more so a passionate rugby league fan, thank you, Warriors. I will never forget what you did for us.
