Australian NBA star Josh Giddey has led the Oklahoma City Thunder to a huge 150-117 upset over the NBA-leading Boston Celtics and setting a new franchise record.

Scoring an individual season-high of 25 points including three three-pointers during the third quarter, the 20-year-old guided his team to a franchise-record 48 points in the period, as well as the record 150 match points.

Giddey more than stood up to fill the void of missing superstar and Thunder’s leading scorer Shai Gilgeous-Alexander who missed the game due to illness.

“He‘s in the zone right now. Everything he’s throwing up is going in,” said Thunder commentator Michael Cage.

“He’s just feeling it and you couldn’t pick a better time without your leading scorer … having the quarter of his life right now. It couldn’t come at a better time because you know the Celtics are trying to make a run at you right now but they’ve been able to starve them off every single time with plays like that.”

It was a big night across the court for the Thunder, with Lu Dort finishing the game with 23 points, Jalen Williams, Tre Mann and Isaiah Joe all scoring 21 points. Five teammates scoring over 20 points, the first time since 2019.

The Thunder put on an impressive performance for a team who haven’t won any games this season by more than 16 points. Their 33 points win also blows out the Celtics average, who before this game were a team that hadn’t lost by more than 16 this season.
