The Matilda scored the first two of her team's goals in the 4-0 win.
The Matildas have lost 3-0 to Japan in a friendly in Tokyo. The Japanese are the dominant team in women’s soccer and, despite some attempts by the Matildas, dominated the play for most of the first half.
The crowd were intense as the Matildas battled to gain control.
Japan dominated proceedings, despite one shot on goal by Australia. In the 25th minute, Australian defender Tameka Butt had a foul awarded against her and the Japanese slotted home a penalty to make it one nil. It was 2-0 nil by half time, the Japanese dominance overwhelming the Matilda’s defence.
The score line could have blown out further was it not for some good goalkeeping. Australian captain Melissa Barbieri was working overtime in the goals in the first half to try and keep the game from blowing out into an even bigger score.
Australia’s best chance in the first half came from a shot on goal from Kate Gill but it was the only highlight for the visitors before half time break.
Japan had slotted home a third goal by the end of the second half to wrap up the match. Despite the pluckiness of the Matildas against New Zealand earlier this month, Japan have again proven why they such a powerhouse in women’s football.
