One of the biggest free agent sagas of 2020 could be completed well ahead of schedule, with multiple outlets reporting on Tuesday that Collingwood had offered star ruckman Brodie Grundy a monster seven-year deal.
The 25-year-old was set to hit the free agency market in a year’s time but, instead, has the possibility to stay with the Magpies until the end of 2027.
Adelaide had made no secret of their desire to try and lure the South Australian ‘home’, while Grundy had previously knocked back Collingwood’s five-year offer as not long enough.
But are Collingwood just paying what Adelaide think Grundy’s worth? Have they been bullied into an unfavourable contract by rival demand?
We were joined on the Game of Codes podcast by Roar AFL expert Adrian Polykandrites to assess Grundy’s worth and make a call on whether the Magpies are paying overs to keep their man.

Grundy’s made a name for himself over the last few seasons as an elite tap ruckman who, when it comes to contested possessions, disposals and the like, has proven himself as an incredible midfielder too.
