Western United 2-0 Brisbane Roar
United were looking for back-to-back wins in their away clash against the Roar, and they got off to the perfect start with Connor Pain scoring the opener in the 11th minute after being met by a beautiful Alessandro Diamanti pass.
On the stroke of halftime Besart Berisha, courtesy of an Aaron Calver assist, doubled the lead. It would be the second week in a row he’d score against a former employer.
Both teams failed to add to their tallies in the second half with the win taking United to third spot.
Player of the game – Connor Pain: Put in an impressive shift on the wing for United. Scored the opening goal of the game and was accurate with hiss passing, going at 83 per cent efficiency.

Melbourne Victory 0-0 Wellington Phoenix
It was a must-win game for both sides as the Victory hosted the Phoenix. The Phoenix started off the better side and had most of the attacking play, though it was the Victory who would come the closest to scoring the opener, Kristijan Dobras shot hitting the post and out before the half.
Both teams failed to score in the half, and the Phoenix looked to have remedied that through a Ulises Davila header in the 5first minute, however this time the crossbar denying the opener.
Victory were then struck a blow as Dobras received his second yellow card for his challenge on Phoenix’s Rino Piscipo.
Down to ten men Victory were forced to defend for the rest of the game and did enough to secure a draw and a clean sheet. The result enough to keep the Phoenix one point clear in the top six.
Player of the game – Anthony Lesiotis: The youngster despite limited experience looked comfortable in his defensive role. He was accurate by foot with a 71 per cent passing efficiency. His six ball recoveries and five successful tackles for the game demonstrating his solid defensive performance.
Sydney FC 1-0 Central Coast Mariners
Sydney came into their game against the Mariners hopeful of extending their lead at the top of the table and wasted little time in breaking the deadlock.
Rhyan Grant spotting Kosta Barbarouses for opening goal in the fifth minute of the game. Sydney took a 1-0 lead into the half and defended it all the way to the final whistle. The Mariners unable to pass keeper Andrew Redmayne, the win now puts Sydney five points clear at the top of the table.
Perth Glory 2-0 Western Sydney Wanderers
The Wanderers were desperate to turn their season around after four straight defeats, but it will prove to be a tough task as they were playing away to an in-form Glory side.
It was the hosts who scored the opener, Gregory Wüthrich scoring his first goal of the season in the 18th minute. The game was then sealed after the hour mark through an unlikely scorer Alex Grant, who fired home in the 66th minute to double the advantage for the hosts.
The Glory taking a 2-0 win which sees them enter the top six in fifth spot.
Player of the game – Alexander Grant: Was a presence in defence for the Glory and managed to push up forward to score the sealer.
Melbourne City 4-0 Newcastle Jets
The Jets were looking to bounce back from their heartbreak loss to Adelaide last week when the hosted City. But it was City who struck first, Craig Noone setting up Adrian Luna for the opener in the third minute.
Luna was then on the scoresheet again scoring in the 28th minute as City took a 2-0 lead into the break. City picked up from where they left off, Javier Cabrera scoring in the 47th minute to put the visitors 3-0 ahead.
Jamie Maclaren found his scoring form again to put the visitors up 4-0 and seal the game in the 59th minute. The 4-0 thrashing putting City back to second on the table and a perfect response to their disappointing game last week.
Player of the game – Adrian Luna: Scored the opening two goals of the game which set the tone for how his side would play for the remainder of the game. Went at 79 per cent for passing efficiency capping off an impressive game.
