Round 20 of the NRL continues on Saturday with the Manly Sea Eagles taking on the North Queensland Cowboys at 4 Pines Park. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 5.30pm AEST.
State of Origin is over and the downhill run into the semi finals has begun. Both these sides are in the mix for September action and that is why these two premiership points are crucial.
The Sea Eagles are already used to must win games. Before their final bye last weekend, they outlasted an improved Roosters 18-16 at Brookvale the previous week. Tom Trbojevic is gone for the season but the Sea Eagles just found a way to get the win.
If the Sea Eagles pack can create enough go forward, Daly Cherry-Evans kicking game can pin down the opposition. That is exactly what he did against the Roosters. Josh Schuster had a hand in Manly’s winning try, but he will need to do more against the Cowboys.
Cherry-Evans and Jake Trbojevic have been named to play but will be monitored after their involvement in Origin III. Dean Matterson will make his NRL debut in place of Ben Trbojevic who is out with a hamstring complaint.
Before their second bye, the Cowboys had a training run against the Tigers, winning 74-0. The Tigers were diabolical but everything the Cowboys did turned to gold. After a slow start to the season, they are coming home with a wet sail.
The Cowboys have one of the more mobile packs in the premiership. Chad Townsend and Tom Dearden are approaching their 2022 form and that unlocks their exciting backline.
The Cowboys have named an unchanged line up from the team that dismantled the Tigers a fortnight ago. Valentine Holmes, Murray Taulagi, Jeremiah Nanai and Reuben Cotter have all been named to back up from Origin.
It’s hard to get a gauge on just how good the Cowboys were against the Tigers a fortnight ago. They definitely won’t threaten a similar margin against the Sea Eagles tonight, with the Manly side desperate to keep in touch with the 8 in front of a big home crowd. However, the Cowboys have more points of attack and should win. Cowboys by 8
