Having lost to the Richmond Tigers on Friday night, the Geelong Cats will host a semi-final at the MCG next week, again on Friday.
Their opponent will be the Sydney Swans, who will back themselves in to cause a boilover after sending the competition a warning with a big win over Essendon on Saturday.
The GWS Giants, who lost the qualifying final on Thursday night, will host the other semi-final, at Spotless Stadium on Saturday night.
Their opponents will be the West Coast Eagles, who won through to the second week in a thrilling extra-time finish with Luke Shuey kicking the winner after the siren.
The Adelaide Crows will have a bye next week before hosting a preliminary final on the following Friday against the winner of the Geelong versus Sydney game.
Richmond too will have a bye before hosting a preliminary final at the MCG against the winner of the GWS Giants versus West Coast Eagles semi-final.
Richmond’s preliminary final will be on Saturday, but an official time is yet to be confirmed. Given their opponent will be an interstate team, it is likely to be a twilight match rather than a night game.
