Less than a fortnight after notching up a double-century for Victoria, it has been announced young batting star Will Pucovski will spend an indefinite period away from the game.
It has been revealed in a statement released by Cricket Victoria that the 20-year-old is being treated for mental health issues.
“Will’s health remains our highest priority and Cricket Victoria’s medical staff will continue to provide support to Will during this time,” Cricket Victoria’s Doctor Trefor James said.
Having plundered 243 against Western Australia at the WACA in the opening round of the Sheffield Shield season, Pucovski had been considered a chance to feature in the Test side this summer.
After just seven first-class matches the rising star has amassed 520 runs at an average of 52.
“Will is a terrific young player and we need to do what’s best for him at this time,” Cricket Victoria General Manager Shaun Graf said.
“We’ll continue to work with our medical staff to determine the best training and preparation plan to support Will at this time.”
Pucovski has previously battled issues to do with concussion. Last season he was substituted out of a match against NSW after being struck by a bouncer.
