The GWS Giants clash with the Carlton Blues in the final game of Round 9, as both sides look to bounce back from defeats last week. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, commencing from 4:40pm AEST.
The Giants suffered a convincing defeat at the hands of Hawthorn last week and have made a raft of changes due to a combination of injury and form.
Stephen Coniglio and Zac Langdon are out with niggling injuries while Matt Buntin and Dawson Simpson have been omitted.
GWS have some powerful ins, with Brett Deledio, Shane Mumford, Lachie Whitfield and Harry Perryman being added to the mix.
Meanwhile, Carlton put up a glorious fight against Collingwood last week but couldn’t quite get over the line.
They have omitted Lachie Plowman and Tom Williamson due to injury and have brought in Nic Newman and Harrison Macreadie for his first game since his debut season in 2017.
In terms of form, GWS have been a bit patchy since their big win over Geelong, dropping games to Fremantle and Hawthorn while beating the Swans and the Saints.
Carlton have just the one win from their last five but barring the loss to North they have pushed the likes of Collingwood, Hawthorn and Gold Coast right to the line, while comfortably accounting for the Bulldogs.
Carlton are bottom with only one win, but their percentage is higher than the five teams above them, showing they have brought consistent effort to generally lose by small margins.
Carlton may be the bottom team, but they have rarely looked like the bottom team this season.
However, with GWS playing at home and fighting for a top-four spot it is hard to envision a better outcome than another worthy but ultimately losing effort from Carlton.
Prediction
Carlton will likely battle well and should GWS take them lightly they could have a fight on their hands but the names GWS can bring in sums up the disparity between the two lists and you would expect their class to carry the day.
GWS by 32 points.
