The AFL is set to name the 2019 All Australian team on Wednesday night, selecting the best 22 players from this year’s home-and-away season. Join The Roar for a live blog as the team is named, from 8:30pm AEST.

On Monday, at the conclusion of the home-and-away season, the 40-man squad was announced. A selection panel will choose the best 22 from this and announce the team tonight.

The 40-man squad for the 2019 AFL All Australian team is as follows:

Daniel Talia (Adelaide), Harris Andrews, Charlie Cameron, Hugh McCluggage, Lachie Neale, Dayne Zorko (Brisbane), Patrick Cripps (Carlton), Brodie Grundy, Scott Pendlebury, Adam Treloar (Collingwood), Nat Fyfe, Michael Walters (Fremantle), Gary Ablett, Mark Blicavs, Patrick Dangerfield, Tom Hawkins, Tim Kelly, Tom Stewart (Geelong), Jeremy Cameron, Nick Haynes (GWS), James Sicily (Hawthorn), Max Gawn (Melbourne), Ben Brown, Ben Cunnington (North Melbourne), Travis Boak (Port Adelaide), Bachar Houli, Dylan Grimes, Dustin Martin, Dion Prestia (Richmond), Dane Rampe (Sydney), Jack Darling, Andrew Gaff, Shannon Hurn, Jeremy McGovern, Brad Sheppard, Luke Shuey, Elliot Yeo (West Coast), Marcus Bontempelli, Josh Dunkley, Jack Macrae (Western Bulldogs).

The selection panel is chaired by Gillon McLachlan, with Kevin Bartlett, Luke Darcy, Danny Frawley, Steve Hocking, Glen Jakovich, Chris Johnson, Cameron Ling, Matthew Richardson and Warren Tredrea all offering their thoughts.

Only nine players from the 2018 All Australian team are nominated again, while 20 members of the squad are first-time nominees.

West Coast has seven players in the squad of 40, the most of any team, while Brisbane has five. How many of these make it into the final 22?

There are six players from Geelong in the mix including Gary Ablett, who could break the eight post-carnival era record held by himself, his father – Gary Ablett senior, Robert Harvey and Mark Ricciuto.

Marcus Bontempelli was voted the 2019 AFL Coaches Champion Player of the Year, finishing 17 votes clear of next best Patrick Dangerfield. Most people have the Bulldog somewhere in the midfield of the All Australian line-up.

The two other Western Bulldogs’ players named in the squad – Josh Dunkley and Jack Macrae – also finished in the top 10 of the votes, but is there room for them in the All Australian squad?

The Coleman Medal will be presented to Jeremy Cameron tonight, and he is set to be named All Australian for the second time.

Kangaroo Ben Brown was pipped at the post for this award, but is a good chance to slip into his first All Australian jacket.

Again, the selectors have a decision to make between ruckmen Brodie Grundy and Max Gawn.

Some have tipped Grundy to be the sole ruckman, others think the pair will swap their 2018 places with Grundy to be named on the field and Gawn on the bench.

Last year’s selection of Lance Franklin as captain was labelled as a little left-of-field. Who gets the honours this year?

There are many suitable candidates with the likes of Bontempelli, Patrick Cripps, Dangerfield, Nat Fyfe, Dayne Zorko and Shannon Hurn all tipped to be named in the team of 22.
