The Adelaide Crows and Geelong Cats do battle at the Adelaide Oval in Round 3 AFL action. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:50pm (AEDT).

Neither of these teams have harmed their reputations as top eight sides in 2019 after promising starts to the season.

Despite Adelaide’s shock loss to the Hawks in Round 1, their convincing win in Sydney last week against the Swans righted the ship and reminded everyone just how polished a team they are.

Geelong have started like the proverbial house on fire – knocking off grand finalists Collingwood in Round 1, before putting the cleaners through a hapless and seemingly out of condition Demons by a whopping 80 points at GMHBA Stadium.

Tonight they venture to Adelaide and a ground where they are historically four wins from eight matches against both the Crows and Port. With around 53,000 people crammed into the stadium, Geelong will face one of the most challenging tasks in the AFL.

However, the Cats are flying high and the Crows, despite the home town advantage, will have to maintain their effort throughout the entire contest after fading in and out of the matches they have competed in thus far this season.

The midfield trio of Patrick Dangerfield, Joel Selwood and Tim Kelly will once again be a key for the Cats and the Adelaide line consisting of Paul Seedsman and Matt and Brad Crouch will have their hands full, on what looks like being a warm night for football in the City of Churches.

Sam Jacobs is a huge out for the Crows, negating what appeared to be something of an advantage for the home side in the ruck. All eyes will be on the Cats defence to see if they can maintain their superb start to the season with Tom Stewart and Mark Blicavs keeping both opponents to paltry totals so far this season.

The defensive play of the Cats will be the key to this match. While a mission in Adelaide is always a difficult one, they look the form team of the competition at the moment. A win tonight will confirm that reputation. While I’m confident the Cats will kick a score, the Crows ability to do so against the well organised and committed Geelong back six is questionable.

Geelong by three goals.
