The Essendon Bombers and the Sydney Swans will face off at the Melbourne Cricket Ground today, as both sides are looking to continue their push for a spot in the top eight. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 1:45pm (AEST).

This game has the potential to be a classic, as both sides are striving to play finals, and they have both had similar seasons up until this point.

After 14 games, Essendon have won seven matches, which sees them sitting just outside the top eight.

John Worsfold’s side are coming off a huge six-point win against the GWS Giants, which took place at Marvel Stadium.

Zach Merrett continued his solid form against GWS, as the midfielder accumulated 28 disposals. The efforts of Jayden Laverde, Cale Hooker and Shaun McKernan proved to be the difference in the end, as they each booted two majors each.

In team news this week for the Bombers, Kyle Langford (omitted), Tom Bellchambers (injured) and Josh Begley (omitted) all make way. Zac Clarke, Jake Stringer and Matt Guelfi come into the side.

As for the Swans, they have secured six wins after 14 games, which leaves them with very little room for error if they wish to play finals.

They will have belief they can feature in finals despite a slow start to the season, as they have proven it is possible in the past.

John Longmire’s side are coming off a 42-point victory over the Gold Coast Suns, which gave them a boost in percentage.

Luke Parker had a solid game against the Suns, as the midfielder finished with 31 disposals. Tom Papley, Isaac Heeney, Nick Blakey, Sam Reid and Ben Ronke all kicked two majors each for the Swans.

In team news this week for Sydney, the injured Callum Sinclair makes way for Harry Cunningham.

Prediction
This game could really go either way, but I think the bigger ground will prove the difference, which is why I’ll back the Bombers.

They spread well from the contest, which may be difficult for the Swans to stop.

Essendon by 14 points.
