Show Preview

Fremantle have a perfect chance to stake their claim as a legitimate finals contender when they host another September hopeful in GWS on Saturday night. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:25pm (AEST).

Sitting 2-1, the Dockers haven’t been overly impressive to start 2022, but have banked vital wins that could prove crucial the closer finals get.

However, their wins have been a one-point thriller over Adelaide and a Derby mauling of a COVID-ravaged West Coast, showing they’re yet to take a scalp of any sort thus far this year. Knocking over the Giants, a team on about the same level as they are, would be a step in the right direction.

Veteran David Mundy is a welcome return after a two-week COVID absence, while the Dockers are confident enough in ruckman Sean Darcy’s fitness that he’s been chosen as the sole big man, with Lloyd Meek making way. Darcy Tucker’s scary concussion in the Derby will also see him miss.

The Giants got the job done against Gold Coast last week, but at 1-2 and still a few weeks off captain Toby Greene’s return, they can ill afford a loss here.

Making things harder, defender Nick Haynes has added to their growing casualty ward, leaving their backline looking decidedly threadbare here.

It will be up to the midfield, led by powerful ruckman Braydon Preuss, to shield the defence and give their forwards enough supply to get a vital win on the road.
