Show Preview

One of the strangest rounds in AFL history gets underway as the Geelong Cats ‘host’ the Brisbane Lions at the SCG. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:40pm (AEST).

After an underwhelming fortnight, Geelong finally got out of second gear against an undermanned Gold Coast outfit, shaking the plucky youngsters off in the last quarter to win by 37 points. It was their first set of consecutive wins since Round 12, 2019. While the Cats have won three of four since the season resumed, they’ve still got lots of room to improve and face a stern test tonight.

Brisbane had an underwhelming ‘fortnight’ too – the first two weeks of the season. Since then, however, they’ve been building nicely with commanding wins over West Coast, Adelaide and – most impressively – ladder leaders Port Adelaide last week.

Geelong have an ominously good record against the Lions, having won 18 of 21 meetings since 2006 by an average of 51 points. They also have a reasonably good record at the SCG, having won three of their last five matches there. Brisbane’s record at the SCG is poor – five straight losses dating back to 2009 – but their last two visits were 2017 and 2013. They also won last year’s meeting with the Cats by one point in one of the matches of the season.
