Show Preview

The Geelong Cats will look to cement their spot in the top four against an Essendon Bombers side who need everything to go right to play finals. Join The Roar for live scores from 3:35pm (AEST).

The Cats are flying high in 2020 and enter this clash on the back of a five-game winning streak. Their last win was arguably the pick of the bunch, an extraordinary comeback win over the Western Bulldogs. They’ll need Port or Brisbane to slip up to sneak into the top two, but their league-best percentage means they’ll be primed to do so.

Essendon got back on the winner’s list with a ferocious comeback of their own against Hawthorn, but an honourable loss to West Coast has put them off the pace. Sneaking into finals is doable, but they’ll need to pull off the upset here and hope things go right elsewhere.

Geelong claimed a 32-point win in last year’s sole meeting, breaking a run of two straight Essendon wins. They’d knocked off the Bombers in six straight clashes prior to that. This will be the first time since 1993 these sides have played outside Melbourne.
