Geelong’s finals hopes are on the line when they take on the second-placed Port Adelaide in one of 2023’s most crucial matches to date. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:25pm (AEST).

Having fallen out of the eight with consecutive losses, including last week’s horror upset at home against Fremantle, the Cats’ September chances haven’t look this precarious since the last time they missed finals, way back in 2015.

A loss here would see them likely needing to win their last three to make it to September, a tall ask considering one of those matches is against the ladder-leading Collingwood: with Tom Hawkins and Mark Blicavs both key outs, even the Cats’ strength at home is no longer a guarantee of victory, especially not after their loss to the Dockers.

The Power, though, are teetering themselves: once a challenger for the Pies’ top spot, three straight losses – including a controversial defeat to Adelaide in last week’s Showdown – have them just a win ahead of the closing Brisbane and Melbourne, and defeat here would in all likelihood consign them to fourth by round’s end.

Missing concussed pair Aliir Aliir and Lachie Jones, the Power’s premiership chances are on the line tonight, meaning two sides both have everything to gain from victory… and everything to lose from defeat.
