It’s a rematch of last year’s thrilling preliminary final as the GWS Giants host the Collingwood Magpies at Giants Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:50pm (AEST).
The Giants have had a fortnight to forget since the season resumed, dropping two very winnable matches against North Melbourne at home and the previously-winless Western Bulldogs. They probably focused too much on the biff against the Dogs and won’t get away with that against the Magpies.
Collingwood, on the other hand, have quietly pressed their premiership claims further with a hard-fought draw against Richmond and a comfortable win over St Kilda. They’ve still got room to improve but, while Geelong, Richmond and West Coast splutter, they’ll inch closer to flag favouritism.
GWS enjoy a strong recent record over Collingwood, winning four of the past five encounters. While last year’s four-point win in the finals is the most remembered, they dismantled the Pies at Giants Stadium by 47 points in arguably their best performance of the season.
