The GWS Giants welcome the Geelong Cats to Manuka Oval on Friday night to begin the final round of the 2019 AFLW home-and-away season. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 7:15pm (AEDT).
The Giants enter this clash with nothing to play for.
It has been a tough six weeks for them, and with that, they will not be making a finals appearance this season. They currently sit fourth, with just one win in Conference B.
GWS are coming off a 32-point loss to the Adelaide Crows, which they will be looking to put right tonight in order to get some pride back.
Despite the poor performance from the team, Alicia Eva was solid for the Giants, collecting 20 disposals against the Crows. No one could follow in her footsteps, however.
Geelong are also coming off a thumping courtesy of the rampant Fremantle Dockers.
Fremantle handed the Cats a six-goal loss, which leaves Geelong sitting second in Conference B. Geelong were only able to score two majors across the four quarters against the Dockers.
Despite the poor performance, a win will ensure a finals berth, which would be some achievement as it is Geelong’s first season in AFLW.
Meghan McDonald was the standout for Geelong against Fremantle, finishing the game with 22 disposals, but no one else could match her efforts.
Despite the poor result against the Dockers, the Cats will be up for this game, and the Giants will be doing everything possible to take some momentum into next season. This should be a solid clash.
Prediction
The Cats are simply a better side, and they will pick up the victory at Manuka Oval.
Geelong by 17 points.
