The Melbourne Demons welcome the Hawthorn Hawks to the Melbourne Cricket Ground today looking for a second victory for the 2019 season. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 1:45pm (AEST).

The Demons have had a terrible start to the season. Simon Goodwin’s side has only managed to win the one game from the opening six rounds.

Melbourne showed glimpses of what they are capable of against the Richmond Tigers last week at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, but they still lost the game by 43 points.

Angus Brayshaw and Clayton Oliver were solid in the midfield for the Demons, as they both accumulated 29 disposals each.

The biggest issue Melbourne had was the fact they only managed to kick the six majors, which ultimately meant they had no chance of gaining the points against the Tigers.

In team news this week for the Demons, Oscar McDonald and Josh Wagner come into the side. Jack Viney (injured) and Sam Weideman (omitted) make way.

As for the Hawks, they managed to defeat the Carlton Blues last week, but only just.

Alastair Clarkson’s side were seriously challenged down in Tasmania, but they still managed to claim a five-point victory.

The Hawks have won three games from the opening six rounds, which is a decent platform to build from for the remainder of the season.

The Hawks did trail by six goals at one point against the Blues, but the impact of Jaeger O’Meara helped turn the game on its head.

The Hawks midfielder reeled in a whopping 42 disposals, and kicked the one major for the game.

Luke Breust and Liam Shiels both finished the match kicking three majors each. Chad Wingard was also lively, as he finished with two goals.

In team news for the Hawks this week, Dylan Moore and Shaun Burgoyne come into the side. Jack Scrimshaw (managed) and James Cousins (suspension) make way.

Prediction
This is such a tough fixture to predict the winner. Neither side are particularly playing well, but the reality is, the Hawks have chalked up a few more wins.

With that being the case, Hawthorn should have the confidence to topple a struggling Demons outfit.
