A huge test awaits the North Melbourne Kangaroos, as they begin life under David Noble against the reigning minor premiers, the Port Adelaide Power at Marvel Stadium. Stay up to date with their AFL clash with live scores on The Roar from 1:10pm (AEDT).

It was the season from hell last year for North Melbourne, who lost 14 of 15 after winning their opening two matches and ended up finishing second last. That prompted the resignation of Rhyce Shaw after just one year at the helm, while also triggering an almighty cleanout of the playing list. New coach David Noble has it all to do with the Kangaroos, who are the hot favourites to take out this year’s wooden spoon.

The task could hardly be any tougher in Round 1, with last year’s minor premiers rolling into town. The Power were just one straight kick away from the grand final last season and will be desperate to prove last year’s surprise rise up the ladder wasn’t just a one-off. Despite their success, coach Ken Hinkley will be under all sorts of pressure if Port start to falter this season.

The Kangas were soundly beaten by 36 points when these sides clashed last season – their sixth loss from their seven most recent meetings with the Power. Their last meeting at Marvel Stadium, however, was a stunning 86-point win in North’s favour in 2019.
