Richmond Tigers champion Jack Riewoldt plays his 300th game as they battle the Brisbane Lions looking to keep their season alive… but COVID-19 has forced a major fixture change. Follow the action from the Gold Coast with live scores on The Roar from 7:50pm (AEST).

Riewoldt joins an exclusive club at Tigerland: only Kevin Bartlett, Jack Dyer and Francis Bourke have previously chalked up the 300-game milestone. It’s a fitting reward for the veteran sharpshooter, who can add it to his three Coleman Medals, two best-and-fairests and, of course, his three premiership medals.

The Tigers badly need to lift to mark the occasion, because their dynasty of dominance has been rapidly crumbling over the last three weeks. Losses to St Kilda, Gold Coast and Collingwood – all sides outside the top eight – have seen the reigning champs drop to twelfth on the ladder. Forget challenging for a premiership threepeat; at this rate, they’ll be lucky to make finals.

Ruckman Toby Nankervis is a welcome return from a knee injury, with the Tigers having lost four of five games since he went down in Round 11; while flag hero Kane Lambert and former Saint Matthew Parker have also been named.

The Lions might still be one of the premiership favourites, but Chris Fagan and his team are now facing their biggest challenge of the year. An upset loss to St Kilda last week was compounded by an injury crisis, with key forward Eric Hipwood now out for the season after an ACL rupture, while key back Marcus Adams’ troublesome foot will again keep him out for an extended period.

It’s certainly not panic stations yet for the Lions, who sit fourth on the ladder – especially now that this game has been moved from the MCG to Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast owing to Victoria’s latest COVID-19 outbreak. But with spots in the top four so tight, they can ill afford to be dropping too many games like this one in the run home.
