The wounded Richmond Tigers face yet another challenge to get their season going against the GWS Giants. Follow the action from Marvel Stadium with live scores on The Roar from 7:25pm (AEST).

For perhaps the first time since their remarkable era began, the Tigers appear vulnerable. They’ve been handsomely beaten twice in three weeks by flag contenders, to the tune of 63 points by Geelong last week and by 34 points to Melbourne in Round 7.

Minus Trent Cotchin, Kane Lambert and now Shane Edwards as well, Damien Hardwick has precious few midfielders left. With the Giants boasting names like Josh Kelly, Callan Ward, Tim Taranto and rising star Tom Green, simply breaking even at the coalface would be an achievement.

After starting the season with three consecutive losses, the Giants have won four of their last five to rocket back into finals contention. Leading the charge has been acting captain Toby Greene, the talismanic forward kicking 18 goals in the last six weeks and providing some inspirational leadership.

Resurgent ruckman Shane Mumford has been crucial, too, the 34-year old winding back the clock with some vintage tap work and trademark aggression at stoppages. He’s four from four so far this season, while the Giants are yet to win without him.

It’s the first time the Giants have battled the Tigers in Melbourne since their embarrassing 89-point loss in the 2019 grand final. A swathe of Giants remain from the team that capitulated on the biggest stage of all, and they’d like nothing better than a chance at some small revenge.
