Show Preview

St Kilda will play the second annual Spud’s game against Essendon tonight at Marvel Stadium, promoting the importance of mental health. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage from 7:50pm (AEST).

The Saints have partnered with ‘Movember’ for this special match, which will raise funds for life-saving mental health programs. They also have their sights fixed on a top four position this year, and will be looking to regain momentum against a struggling Bombers side.

The Saints went toe to toe with the Lions last week but Brisbane kicked away in the final term to sink the Saints by 21 points. They welcome back a number of stars into their line-up, including Hunter Clark and Jack Billings, to add some versatility to the team.

The Bombers’ 150th anniversary celebrations were disrupted by a loss to Carlton last weekend, going down by four goals on a special night for the club.

Essendon managed to stay in touch in the first quarter, but the Blues’ forward line, starring Harry McKay and Charlie Curnow, guided them into a winning position.

Tonight is a big match for Jake Stringer and Peter Wright, as they look to regain confidence and form to bring some spark back into the Bombers’ forward line. I am also really excited to see what debutant Massimo D’Ambrosio, can bring to the table under Friday night lights, having been plucked from obscurity in the mid-season draft.

Prediction

I am tipping the Saints to win this one for Spud by 30 points.
