The West Coast Eagles look to navigate flag favouritism with a potentially tricky encounter against the Carlton Blues at Optus Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores from 3:35pm (AEST).

The West Coast Eagles are in superb form. They have won their last five clashes, including dominating Collingwood a fortnight ago and sneaking a win over fellow premiership contenders Geelong last Saturday.

The Eagles, who had a very average beginning to the season in the Queensland hubs, look as much a premiership threat as any other team, and are the favourites for the flag for some – high praise for a team yet to reach the top four. To do so, they need to navigate this clash and next week’s encounter with the Hawks.

Carlton are having their best year in some time, but have see-sawed their last four clashes, winning two and losing two. Last week’s loss – against the Hawks at this venue – was a particularly disappointing clash, given they led by 31 points in the first term only to eventually lose by that margin. Wins over North and the Bulldogs of late haven’t been able to keep them in or near the top eight, with the team currently sitting 13th.

The Eagles have won every game they’ve played at their home venue this year, all of them bar the Geelong match-up by big margins. The Blues have played here once – losing that aforementioned encounter with Hawthorn.
