WATCH: Brad Scott opens up on his sudden departure from North Melbourne

The weekend’s worst kept secret in football has been confirmed, with North Melbourne and Brad Scott announcing they have parted ways.

Scott had been contracted until the end of next season but will not see out the Kangaroos’ 2019 campaign after a disappointing start to the year despite a busy trade period.

In a press conference, Scott said he told the club it needs “fresh air” in order “to do the things it needs to do”.

The decision marks the end of an era at North Melbourne, with Scott having joined in 2010.

Former Collingwood and Sydney defender Rhyce Shaw has been named North Melbourne’s interim coach for the remainder of the season.

Though it came in unconventional circumstances, the players were able to give Scott an ideal sent off with a 25-point win over the Western Bulldogs.
