'We've become a bit of a nanny state': Why the booing saga amused Beveridge
Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge says he doesn’t understand the backlash to the booing controversy following Collingwood’s win over Essendon on ANZAC Day.
Many observers decried the lack of sportsmanship shown by Essendon fans who booed throughout the immediate aftermath of the match including when ANZAC Day medal winner Scott Pendlebury was presented with his award for being the best on ground.
The boos even prompted Magpies coach Nathan Buckley to slam the crowd, saying, “Shame on anyone that booed a champion”.
However Beveridge had a very different reaction, saying he did “have a chuckle” when Buckley’s comments were met with further boos from fans.
Essendon supporters had been upset with several umpiring decisions late in the game which the Magpies won by just four points.
